A PIA domain that shuts down by itself

Hello,

Being a PeopleSoft Admin (a.k.a. PSAdmin ) can range from being fun to be boring, challenging, annoying or relentless work depending on how accustomed you are with Oracle-PeopleSoft's way of working and how you view your job profile as a whole. I must add that it also depends what kind of day your customer is having. If one fine morning they log on to your production site and find that it is not opening then you can imagine what will be asked of you later !!

So..all those years we come across many such issues or problems and are required to find solutions quickly. I will just mention something I came across some days back, which by the looks of it, should be simple job.
I was working on a lift and shift project for a customer with PeopleTools 8.55 and configured a PIA domain and site through PSADMIN utility, went on to start it and then logged on to this environment through a browser and completed some configuration work further. After completing all the tasks at hand, I wanted to log off my server, so there I went ahead, closed the menu driven PSADMIN utility and logged off. Only to be informed by my developer colleague some time later, that the PIA is down and he can't access the website.

Strange I thought, logged on to the server, started it again and again closed PSADMIN and logged off the server. My friend again came back saying that PIA went down. I smelled something weird going on so started investigating. Upon spending some time with it, I got to know that this is a known issue with PeopleTools/Weblogic. With this, as soon as you close the PSADMIN utility, your PIA crashes.

More details can be found on My Oracle Support with doc ID E-WL: After Closing The psadmin Console on Windows the PIA Domain Shuts Down (Doc ID 2236811.1) and the solution is to apply PeopleTools Patch 8.55.14 or higher or keep the PSADMIN utility running until you apply this patch.

So if you are on one of those older 8.55 patches, please keep this in mind !!

Elastic Search support with PeopleSoft

Many people will agree that making a switch from Secure Enterprise Search to Elastic search as a search engine behind PeopleSoft apps...
